Spammers, Scrapers and Scammers….Oh My!

The net is full of all kinds of threats. Just how bad is it? These bottom feeders have created a Multi Billion dollar business! Yea, it’s worse than one might think. Pharmaceutical companies are the biggest source of revenue for them. Now you why your meds cost so much.

But the bad thing, is most website owners don’t even know that their websites are being crawled, scrapped and harvested everyday. They think that just because they have that tracking or hit counter code installed they know about every hit to their site.

Well guess what sparkie? You would be amazed at what that tracking code isn’t telling you, because it can’t. You see, most tracking/analytic software like Google Analytics or Urchin for instance, use JavaScript to collect data. Therein lies the problem, because, the bad guys don’t use a JavaScript enabled browser to attack your site, so the JavaScript is never parsed and the software never sees them. As a matter of fact, 98% of the time they don’t even know what your site looks like because the software they use isn’t a web browser. It’s more like a search engine crawler. Simply put, if you right click on one of your pages and “view source”, that’s what the software sees. No images, fancy JavaScript or CSS, just plain text.

The first reaction to these threats website owners take is to start installing anit-spam mods, plugins and scripts. Which for the most part helps a lot, but in turn it also increases page load time and CPU time. Not to mention having to keep up with the latest updates, patches and fixes.

The one thing that most don’t think of is, that although the plugins and mods are helping to keep your site clean and safer, they still allow the threats onto your site or server.
It’s sort of like fixing a wet basement by collecting the water after it comes through the walls and pumping back outside. The problem is still there! The water is still coming through the walls, it’s just not running all over the floor.

Just like correctly fixing a wet basement by diverting the water away before it gets in, we can do the same with online threats. Diverting or stopping threats before they ever reach our sites, not only makes security sooo much easier, but also reduces the bandwidth usage. With almost no threats ever reaching our sites, we can uninstall most of those anti-spam mods and scripts, which will help decrease page load times. Fast pages = more visitors! ;)

Sounds cool right? Well, there are companies out there that offer this type of service. Unfortunately, the average person can’t afford them. So we’re stuck fighting off threats the best we can.

Until now! :)

There is a company that will protect your site/server from online threats, plus 20 other services, that anyone can afford.
Well….that is IF you can afford FREE!

I know what you’re thinking! “If it’s free, then it can’t be worth a plug nickel” Well, you’re almost right. But that “plug nickel” is made of Gold! But please do not take my word for it! Go check them out, see how they work, ask questions, give it a try and then come back here and tell me what you think that “plug nickel” is made of.

But just to give you an example of one of the services they offer. Here’s my email address which CloudFlare is protecting. wizzle@wizzlefits.com

Oh, there isn’t any goofy code installed on this site to scramble that email address. CloudFlare scrambles it for me, and at no CPU or bandwidth cost to me.
CloudFlare calls it “E-mail Address Obfuscation” which means they..

”Automatically scramble e-mail addresses on your web pages, thwarting bots from discovering and spamming them, while keeping them visible to humans.”

Remember….bots can’t parse JavaScript! LOL!!!!
